Ways to Detoxify Your Body

Do you know that your body has a positively amazing ability to detoxify itself?  It’s true and it’s a good thing too because most of us consume or absorb a frightening amount of dangerous toxins on a fairly regular basis.

If you eat a fresh healthy diet and you don’t smoke or drink to excess, your body is probably quite able to deal with and expel the toxins that you come into contact with.  If however, you do smoke or your diet is largely made up of fast food and junk food, your body is likely overtaxed and in need of some help.

You may be feeling tired a lot or experiencing ‘brain fog’ or getting sick often.  If this is true, you are going to benefit from learning about ways to detoxify your body.  Many who have embraced a regular routine of detoxification have experienced renewed energy and mental alertness.

There are many ways to help your body detoxify itself and, depending on your current state of health, a period of detoxification may bring about some unpleasant but necessary side effects.  Be smart and see your doctor for a physical exam and discuss your plans in detail.  Let your doctor keep an eye on you through the process.

Here are a couple simple ways to let your body rest and restore itself.

Water Fasting

When you stop eating food and simply drink water you let your body rest from digestion.  As soon as digestion stops, your body can focus energy on clean up efforts.  Start with a one day fast.  If you respond well you can move up to three days or more.  Plan your water fast for a period of time when you can rest a lot. 

Juice Fasting

A juice fast will also give your body a great deal of rest as the fresh juices are extremely easy for the body to digest leaving plenty of energy left over for other renewing tasks.  You will need your own juicing machine as store-bought juices are not as beneficial since they don’t carry the same amount of live enzymes that help your body digest quickly.  Carrot, spinach, apple, cabbage, pineapple are all excellent choices for a juice fast.

There are some specialized detoxification diets and programs that target a particular area of the body like the liver or the digestive track.  Do a lot of research and get medical advice before tackling one of these programs.
